Rader Announces House Committee Assignments

March 10, 2023

HARRISBURG – Rep. Jack Rader (R-Monroe) this week was appointed to serve on the Finance, Local Government, and Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development committees in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 2023-24 Legislative Session. He was also named Republican chairman of the Subcommittee on Boroughs under the House Local Government Committee.

“I am pleased to be returning as a member of each of these committees, where my business background and nearly 30 years of experience as a municipal leader can provide valuable insight as we consider the legislation before us,” said Rader. “In addition, because tourism drives Monroe County’s economy, serving on that committee can only benefit our region and its business community.”

The House Finance Committee oversees matters relating to taxation and fiscal policy, investment of the Commonwealth’s money and regulations of the Department of Revenue. In addition, it reviews legislation dealing with the operation of the Pennsylvania Lottery, as well as bills regarding the Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program and the Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly (PACE) Program, both of which are funded by the lottery.

The House Local Government Committee reviews and considers legislation affecting the more than 2,500 county and municipal governments across the Commonwealth. This could include legislation related to local government purchases, real estate assessment policies and statewide pensions for municipal police officers.

The House Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development Committee considers legislation relating to travel and tourism promotion; the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission; scenic roadways; snowmobile and trail-related initiatives; amusement parks, fairs, carnivals and folk festivals; agritourism; hotel and lodging issues; recreational use of land and water; and many others.

Standing committees are a cornerstone of the legislative process. All bills are assigned to a committee to undergo review. Committees may hold hearings on legislation, consider amendments to pending bills and report them to the full House for a vote.
